9/4/2023 0 Comments Bandcamp othercideWith the AGE OF ANGER EP, SHADOW SECT brings the full might of their sonic expertise to bear for their first release on OTHERCIDE RECORDS, presenting three tracks marked by the unabating power of their volatile sound.Īaaaaaaaaah!!! How I missed this hidden one. DAMAGE CONTROL features additional collaboration from GANCHER & RUIN as it closes the EP with a driving hardcore drumbeat interspersed with breakbeat flourishes and the warped wiles of a bassline wrapt between its impacts. DELIMIT then joins SHADOW SECT for JAILBREAKER, which contrasts the dramatic flair of its coursing chorals with the unrestrained auditory assault of its endless percussive barrage. AGE OF ANGER continues this trend, bringing their decisively hard edged crossbreed sound to OTHERCIDE RECORDS for a powerful debut on the label.ĭKD opens the EP with utmost ferocity, screaming praises of the double kick drum that provides the basis for the maelstrom of auditory energy surrounding the charge of its relentless bassline pattern. Born as a collaborative project between WPL & The Annunaki, SHADOW SECT has brought their sound to labels such as PRSPCT Recordings, Close 2 Death, and Drumatch Records with a slew of releases since the project’s recent conception. For pre-order, go to Beatport or Othercide’s Bandcamp page.SHADOW SECT make their OTHERCIDE RECORDS debut with their AGE OF ANGER EP, which features collaborations with DELIMIT as well as GANCHER & RUIN across its 3 track span. In the meantime, enjoy exploring the Far Layer of the cerebrum with this epic EP.įar Layer will release on a Beatport exclusive on Othercide Records March 22 and will be available on all other platforms on April 7. With so much to digest on Far Layer, one could say that DnB fans will be occupied for a while but we still hope he continues his current trend of releasing more often. XCOM in the sense combat takes place in turns, with characters. Let the simultaneous skanking and chin scratching commence. Othercide is a tactics game at its core, borrowing from the likes of XCOM and Darkest Dungeon with its combat and gameplay structure. Raw, grinding and almost dissonant in how off the main beat it is, this second beat is where the brain of the listener really wakes up, pays attention and tries to make sense of another CV track. The most notable innovation here is in the syncopation of what can really only be called a second beat, although some may tag it as the bassline. The beat and bassline are both quite minimal and clean with a simple kick and snare overlay and more classic DnB phrase transitions. Only Current Value can give a hearty nod to the old school in a track while at the same time making it so different and new that no one would question his innovation or originality. The beat structure, however, is another CV slammer. In terms of recognizable drum and bass, our Your EDM premiere “Ferromagnetic” even goes as far as to have a very familiar musical sample in the intro and in the break. “Photoelectric” and “Ferromagnetic” seem to be more conventional DnB but they still have that brainsplitting Current Value charm that never quite lets the prefrontal lobe off the hook. This is the soundtrack for Othercide, a mixture of somber melodies and epic melancholic that serves as the backdrop for the war against Suffering. Similarly the title track is almost all melody and ambient sound design. Snow and Coresplittaz, for example, has some really interesting vocal and melody work. There’s a surprising amount of melody and vocals on this EP, which seems to be indicative of CV’s recent interest in melody and music and how it pairs with heavy bass. There is some definite work that would seem somewhat like conventional DnB but some tracks are really out there. Time to hunker down for more bass explosions.įar Layer is quite different, even for Current Value. His next venture is fast approaching with Far Layer, due out this Friday, March 22 on an Othercide Beatport exclusive. Just when you thought it was safe to turn your attention back to other artists for a minute, turns out Current Value is giving the DnB world less and less of a refractory period in terms of time between terrifyingly good releases.
